This here is by far the best conducter ive had. Even though ive only had about three i can honestly say none have applied themselves as much as he did. and its not just something im saying. this is something i have discovered. with Mr. Stuart, even though he was a great teacher and i do miss him, he was all work with us, he didnt really have the sense of humor for kids. and Mr. Feiger, also a great teacher, worked alot more on crowd pleasing songs. they were really easy but they didnt really prepare us for what Mr. P had in store. when i came to RHS(Roosevelt High School) from WMS(thats Wilson Middle School for those of you not in wyandotte) everything was different. Mr. P had a great sense of humor. he immeaditely taught our band how to tune, certain breatheing tips. how to hold out longer on long notes to make them sound more full. he enforced scales. i remember him saying my freshman year that whiule we play and he stops us it is becuase we did something right and not something wrong. i thought that that was really cool. but what impressed me the most was the music he had provided us with. he gave us music that was like really hard. and i didnt think i liked Mr. P at first. i thought i cant play this. its gonna sound like crap. then his whole sight reading thing was like suicide to me. anyway. the first pice that he presented to us was Perigrin. it was an awesome fast paced song. i remembered i played Timpani and i had a really hard time with that piece. he said a few words and of couse because of my talent i didnt ever get it but it was an awesome piece. anyway, he was responsible for getting the RHS band to attend MSBOA. that is a great experience. and at msboa u play a march and 2 other songs i dont really know the specifics of it. but afterwards u then have to sightread( play a piece that u never played before) and u get rated on each and an overall grade is then produced. i think our first year we got like two threes and a two in sight reading or something. but i remember going up to the borad and looking at it with Amy Brown next to me and saying wow look at that band they really suck. Amy turned to me and said in her unique wanna stab myself voice, "Thats Us!" . anyway... Mr. P does have a great sense of humor and i wanna commend him for putting up with Mark Miller for 4 years. man that has go tto be hard. but back on to task. im not sure that Mr. Poposki really knows how much he has changed the Music Program and also changed the lives of his kids. band isnt at all a class. a blow off class. its like a family. these are people that are almost all friends. through out the years the band slowly dwindles to the HardCore members. the ones that care. and those are the commited people. he recently told us that he no longer is going to be teaching at Roosevelt High school. that was one of those times where you dont wanna believe the truth.. i always took Mr. P for granted. never really seeing him for all he has done. but then to think that someone is gonna replace him. someone is gonna be here next year annd its not going to be him was just something that i cant see. i always knew that he wasnt always going to be here but i never in my life Knew he was going to end up in Texas. see i always stood(sat rather) in the back of the band room and watched him work with all the students. and over time i could see that he liked doing it. i saw how he got during shows. and how he got at MSBOA. he enjoyed what he did. and us, as a band understood that. when we went to chicage a few weeks ago i sat behind him during the performance of West Side story and i saw how he really got into the play. i noticed that when we played for a collage in Chicago he sat and took note of what the conductor had said. unlike most teachers he cared for the band. he gave us that hard music in the begining because he knew we could play it. and even though i didnt show this guy respect he had really impacted me. he showd the band its potiental. he showed us that we could play collage level pieces if we tried. that day he told us he was leaving i didnt know what to think. and since i dont exactly have the best relationship with him (in part because i am a drummer) i couldnt say anything so i thought i d give him the honor he deserves here( some honor huh?lol) but im gonna miss him next year and it is really going to suck alot. in the immortal words of Mr. Carl Poposki," EASY CHICKEN!
